Rolando Gonzalez-Bunster

Chief Executive Officer & Chairman

Chairman of the Board

Rolando founded the business in 1988 and has over 40 years of experience in project management and business development.

He began his career at Gulf & Western Industries where he started out as a special assistant to chairman and founder Charles Bluhdorn, eventually becoming its youngest corporate Vice President and Head of International Operations. After Gulf & Western, Rolando went on to establish his own companies to acquire and operate assets in the region.

Rolando, Georgetown University College Class 1968, serves on many of his alma mater’s boards. He was Chair of the International Initiatives Board and is currently a trustee on the Board of Advisers of the Georgetown College of Arts and Sciences and director of the Latin American Board.

He is a Director and Trustee of the William, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation. He is also a member of the Energy Committee of the Clinton Global Initiative, focusing on the development of clean and renewable energy. Rolando is proud to be a founding member of the Walkabout Foundation which has distributed 21,000 wheelchairs to date.

Mike Baumstein

Michael Baumstein is a member of Barings Alternative Investments, a global real estate, private equity and real assets platform. Mike is Deputy Head of the Private Equity/Real Assets team. Mike has worked in the industry since 1993 and has extensive experience with financial institutions and investing. Prior to joining the firm in 2013, Mike was Executive Vice President, Chief Investment Officer and Head of Corporate Strategy at Scottish Re Group Limited. Before Scottish Re, he was an investment banker, with a specialty in financial institutions’ corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions at Bear Stearns and Prudential Securities. He also held finance and strategy positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Scudder Kemper Investments. Mike holds a B.A. in Economics from Rutgers University and an M.B.A. from Columbia University.

Jorge V. Jasson

Senior Managing Director, Head of Strategy

Jorge leads InterEnergy’s business strategy function, is a member of the Investment Committee and sits on the Board. He also sits on the Boards of several of the company’s operating businesses.

Prior to his involvement with InterEnergy, he was a founding partner and the chairman of Dolomite Capital Management, an emerging markets fund of hedge funds started in 2005 and sold to Ashmore Group in 2008.

Jorge joined The Chase Manhattan Bank from Citibank in 1985, and worked for Chase and its successor JPMorgan Chase, throughout various mergers and combinations uninterruptedly until his retirement from JPMorgan Chase in February 2003.

His assignments included positions in Argentina in the corporate finance group, in Brazil where he ran the firm’s Merchant Banking Group for two years and in New York for most of his career. In New York he ran the firm’s Global Emerging Markets Division and managed the International Fixed Income Division.

Flavio da Silveira Pinheiro

Flavio leads InterEnergy’s corporate finance, investor relations and administrative functions. Flavio is also a member of the Investment Committee and sits on the board of InterEnergy and its operating businesses.

Flavio was a Director in the Investment Banking department of Credit Suisse First Boston, holding positions in New York and London from 1997 to 2007, focusing on M&A and equity transaction execution.

In 2007, Flavio founded Sprimont Capital LLC, a firm with offices in New York and Rio de Janeiro, to advise on and invest in transactions in Latin America. While at Sprimont, Flavio advised Basic Energy on several M&A and financing transactions, including the acquisitions of Pedregal Power Company and Jamaica Energy Partners.

In early 2011, Flavio brought together a group of institutional investors with Basic Energy, and played a key role in structuring the transactions that led to the formation of InterEnergy. After InterEnergy was formed, Flavio took on management and Board responsibilities, and went on to work on securing additional equity funding from the IFC, IFC Asset Management Company and Barings.

Roberto Herrera

Managing Director, Head of Dominican Republic

Roberto is the CEO of CESPM and its operator Basic de la República Dominicana. He is also the Executive Director and Vice President to the Board of CEPM and a member of the InterEnergy Board.

Roberto has over 20 years’ experience working in the Latin America energy sector. Previously, he was the Deputy Country Manager in the Dominican Republic of Basic Energy; Vice President for Administration of EGE HAINA and CEPM; and Regional Manager for the Americas of Scotia Energy Ltd.

Roberto has an economics degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in Santo Domingo and an MBA (based on the University of North Carolina programme), magna cum laude from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

In 1997 he was awarded a British Chevening Scholarship to study a master of science in business economics at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.

Doug Hewson

Managing Partner, Portland Private Equity

Doug Hewson has over 18 years of private equity and venture capital experience. Prior to joining Portland as a partner, he was responsible for co-founding and leading two successful investment management firms. At Portland, he has primary responsibility for investor relations, is a member of Portland’s investment committee and is involved in all aspects of fund management.

Ieda Gomes Yell

Non-Executive Director

Ieda Gomes is the IFC Nominee Director with energy sector experience gained with BP plc, COMGAS (Brazil) and other industrial companies. She is also a board member of Saint-Gobain, Exterran and Bureau Veritas.

Ieda has worked on projects in Latin America, Middle East, South Asia, Africa and Europe and has a deep understanding of the gas/LNG supply chains in both international and regional gas markets. She has played major roles in new country entry strategies, JV creation/formation, project development and implementation, privatisation, and restructuring of large businesses.

Colin Curvey

Head, IFC Africa, LatAm & Caribbean Fund

Colin Curvey is head of the IFC African, Latin American & Caribbean Fund at the IFC Asset Management Company (“AMC”) the fund management arm of the International Finance Corporation. Prior to joining the AMC he was a partner with the London-based middle market private equity firm Duke Street. He has over 20 years of experience in
private equity investing in the developed world and emerging markets.

Ambassador Hans H. Hertell (ret.)

Independent Director

Former Ambassador Hans H. Hertell is currently the chairman of The Hertell Group LLC, a merchant banking and international strategic consulting firm. He has over 30 years of experience in government, public affairs, business and banking. Ambassador Hertell was sworn in as the United States Ambassador to the Dominican Republic on 8 November, 2001, where he served until 1 May, 2007. In the banking sector, Ambassador Hertell was the chief executive officer and vice chairman of Ponce Bank (NYSE), one of the largest publicly traded corporations in the Caribbean, with US$1.8 billion in assets. Ambassador Hertell was also one of the founding partners of one of the largest full service law firms in Puerto Rico, Goldman, Antonetti, Ferraiuoli, Axtmayer and Hertell.

Philippe Chryssicopoulos

Global Head of Power, Utilities & Infrastructure, UBS

Philippe is Global Head of Power, Utilities & Infrastructure at UBS Corporate Client Services/Investment Banking. He is also a member of the EMEA Management Committee and the Global Client Franchise Steering Committee.

Philippe joined Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BoAML) in 1998 and worked across several products, sectors and regions within investment banking. In 2011, he was appointed Head of Infrastructure and, in 2016, he was made Head of Power, Utilities, Renewables & Infrastructure for EMEA. He left BoAML to join UBS in 2018.

Philippe holds a BSc in International Economics from Georgetown University and is fluent in French and Greek.

Diego Gonzalez Bunster

Non-Executive Director

Diego Gonzalez Bunster is Rolando’s son. He attended Georgetown University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in history and government. After graduation, Diego began working at Creative Artists Agency, the world’s pre-eminent talent agency.

Diego has also worked for the William J. Clinton Foundation, where he was assigned to the Foreign Affairs Department.

Since 2009, Diego has been working hands on with the Walkabout Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to finding a cure for paralysis as well as improving the lives of people suffering from spinal cord injuries.

Diego is a native Spanish and English speaker and is fluent in French.
